PILSEN—BARRIO MÁGICO ANNOUNCED AT THE MOLE DE MAYO FESTIVAL
PILSEN—BARRIO MÁGICO ANNOUNCED AT THE MOLE DE MAYO FESTIVAL
Pilsen is a neighborhood in the Lower West Side community area of Chicago. Pilsen is still predominantly Hispanic and holds on to its Mexican roots. It’s one of Chicago's most colorful and culturally rich neighborhoods and is known for its arts community, dining scene, quaint small businesses and more. It has also been recognized as one of “The 12 Coolest Neighborhoods Around the World” by Forbes Magazine.
As part of the immersive and interactive art experience at the Mole de Mayo Festival, a five-foot tall wooden letter art installation, “PILSEN”, painted by renowned Pilsen muralist Salvador Vega will be on display. Attendees can take and share photos to encapsulate the spirit of Pilsen—Barrio Mágico and the event.
Created to evolve with the community and partners as it expands, Pilsen—Barrio Mágico has been planned with a phased approach. This allows for organic growth that is scalable and also allows residents, businesses, and visitors to adapt to the program.
The concept of “Pilsen—Barrio Mágico” is inspired by “Pueblos Magicos” (Magical Towns) in Mexico. These “Pueblos Magicos” are investments made by the Mexican government to support local, national, and international visitors to places of cultural, musical, artistic, and/or gastronomical importance, particularly in small, rural towns. Since 2001, Mexico’s Secretariat of Tourism has established approximately 132 “Pueblos Magicos” across the country.
Pilsen’s story is one of struggle and triumph. From the successive waves of Eastern European to Mexican immigrants. We strive to preserve the culture and traditions through celebrations like Mole de Mayo Festival.
We have the National Museum of Mexican Art, the 10,000-piece collection showcasing the work of Mexican and Mexican-American artists. Walk or bike ride to see the colorful murals and street art from the 1970s to today.

It’s home to the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Benito Juarez Sculpture Park and architecture since the late 1800s. Listen to live music at venues like Thalia Hall and other bar/restaurants. There’s something to do any day of the week.
